ROCKINGHAM \u2014 Supply issues have pushed back the planned opening of The Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The skating rink was initially supposed to open next week, but owner Mary Kate Lambeth said renovations are not yet complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe plant that we were getting the polyurethane from to coat the newly sanded floor shut down due to machine problems,\u201d said Lambeth.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the opening will depend on the delivery of the polyurethane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lambeth is not going to let this get her down, as she is keeping the final inspection scheduled as planned. She is going to make the best of the current situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is completely out of my control, and I hate we won\u2019t be able to have the grand opening as planned,\u201d Lambeth said. \u201cWe have made great progress with the renovations so far.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lambeth said she intends to honor all the reserved events that have already been scheduled as a type of \u201csoft opening.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe rink floor will be temporarily fixed to accommodate these reservations in assuring safe skating until the floor is completely refinished,\u201d she said, adding that parties begin this weekend and the summer groups will start on June 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The concession stand should be ready by the official opening and Lambeth says the rink has contracts with Pepsi, Icee and Dippin\u2019 Dots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rink will also feature ad panels from local businesses and host a sponsorship night each year with sponsors receiving tickets for a free night of skating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCustomers will also benefit from the advertisers, as anyone who can bring a receipt from someone advertising will receive a discount on admission once a month,\u201d Lambeth said. \u201cI call it my \u2018piggy-back\u2019 promotion, a shop local night.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The skate sales were a hit for the upcoming contest, and people are submitting their unique creations to enter in the grand-opening contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese skates are bringing me so much joy; it makes my heart happy every time someone brings one in,\u201d Lambeth said. \u201cWith the grand opening delay, we will have a little more time for people to work on their skates.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lambeth hopes to have all skates submitted by the end of June. There will be time for patrons to view the skates before voting at the grand opening, with prizes awarded to the winners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People have been calling from across the region to inquire about the opening date, according to Lambeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey are all excited, as there are no other skating rinks in nearby surrounding counties,\u201d she said. \u201cI am making the best of the delay; it may be a blessing in disguise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
